Printing the future — one layer at a time
Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? The Buderim Men’s Shed has launched its very own 3D Technology Group — and the blokes have taken to it like a grinder to steel. A growing crew of shed members are discovering the surprising joy of turning a digital idea into a real, hold-it-in-your-hands object, all without leaving the shed.
From tiny precision parts to decorative pieces the grandkids go wild for — if you can dream it, we’re working out how to print it.
The group meets regularly to swap tips, troubleshoot tangled filament, wrestle with FreeCAD and Fusion 360, and celebrate every successful print with well-deserved cups of tea. There’s a lot of laughter, a fair bit of head-scratching, and a growing pile of surprisingly impressive creations to show for it.
Whether it’s designing a custom bracket, modelling a replacement knob for a vintage radio, or just printing something fun for the grandchildren, the 3D group is proving that new technology and good company make for a pretty unbeatable combination.
No experience needed — just a willingness to have a go and enjoy a laugh along the way. All Buderim Men’s Shed members are welcome to join in.
